What is the best time of year for fishing in Costa Rica?

Due to deep water levels coupled with the migration patterns of the pelagic fish species, we are fortunate to be able to catch many of these species throughout the year. But there are peak times for different species: Sailfishing, Marlin, Roosterfish, Dorado, Tuna and several other varieties of fish can be caught any month of the year. The following seasons should be considered if you have a particular fish in mind:

Sailfish

April through September

Black Marlin

April through August with a peak run generally in May

Blue and Striped Marlin

December through March

Roosterfish

Caught year round

Mahi Mahi or Dorado

Most prevalent in Spring through late Fall

Yellowfin Tuna

May through November

Cubera Snapper, Amberjack

Caught year round
